Over at ClacksBlog, Kirsteen is talking about how much freedom some of their Pre 5 kids have when using ICT. Should we be learning from this, and figuring out how deal with prior knowledge and experience better later on in our kids education?

I found this a really useful link Andrew and I agree about it being important to take account of children’s prior ICT skills and knowledge. I often feel really disappointed when I see primary one children (and older!) being ‘taught’ things they could do in a meaningful and fun way at three and four years old.

I couldn’t agree more Catherine – not taking account of prior learning troubles me for two reasons – 1. think how far we could progress if this was taken into consideration, and 2. I’ve lost count of times teachers complain about pupil indifference or indiscipline, when frankly the kids are completely bored/have lost interest due to repetition. I know repetition doesn’t account for all indifference or indiscipline, but it’s certainly a contributory factor.
