(Spurred on by Groanin’ Jock – this is my last post…)

The premise:

If the blogosphere were coming to an end 24 hours from now, what would your final post be? Would you go out with a bang, or as softly as a whisper? Would you say “goodbye and good riddance” and give us the virtual finger? This is your chance to make your mark on the blogosphere.

The post:

When I first started a blog, the entire purpose was to provide a location for people to find out what I was up to, where I had been and what I had discovered. Over the period of time that I have been keeping this rambling online journal there have been numerous discussions (both on and offline) about the type of person that could keep a blog, and what it says about them. I’ve always been incredibly practical about this – the whole point of a blog for me after all is merely to pass on information, not really to say very much about me. Rather I regard this as a tool to help me reflect professionally.

Occasionally, I’ve managed to string a few thoughts together that have sparked discussion and development in others, and very occasionally I’ve posted a half-baked idea that I’ve then subsequently retracted. For me though, that says that I’m developing?

But the time has come, dear readers, to end this blog.

I think it’s served its purpose well, but then I’m completely biased. I hope you’ve enjoyed my travels – like the day I drove all the way from Helensburgh to Ffionfort only to find that the sound of Mull was too rough to sail (10 hours travel for nothing). I hope you’ve enjoyed my antics – for example the time Maggie and I were overtaken by a hearse on the way back from Inveraray (and we were doing 60). I hope too that you’ve benefited from the things in the world of ICT that I’ve discovered and shared, and the resources I’ve shared to help people make better use if ICT.

My thanks to the hundreds of you that have commented, and to the thousands of you that have read what I have to say.

Maybe I’ll see you in the real world.

The blogosphere is dead – long live the blogosphere!

Great post! I hope you’re not seriously going to give it all up…

Andrew, you’ve made me waste the time for a change!

For real?!

Why?Why? Why? No! No! No! . You get Argyll blogging and then walk away! I don’t/won’t believe it! Where are you going to be caring, sharing your apostrophes. What has cheesed you off so severely? Please don’t do this! Your half baked ideas as you call them are better than my finished puddings, have kept myself and my class going. Ok some was too techy for me but your interest and enthusiasm can’t be treated like a weed, a flower growing in the wrong place. No! I think your readers deserve an explanation.

Ok, so I take things too literally. Then I read and think. Andrew Brown not blogging…not possible. Good wind up! :-)

Mark – you have completely shattered an illusion there – I don’t know… after your real name, next you’ll probably start puting pictures of all your former classmates online too… ;-)

Chris – happy to oblige ;-)

Elspeth – (no link anymore? I don’t remember your end of the blogosphere post!?) Today has probably answered your question.

Marlyn (twice) – In all seriousness, I will not be surprised if the day comes in the not too distant future when I do put up my last post. I’m not saying this for sympathy votes either. The web is constantly changing. Pretty soon we’ll be looking at other ways to communicate what we think, feel and do. So ‘Andrew Brown not blogging’ is not just very possible – I can safely guarantee it’ll be a certainty at some point soon…
